HUMN 1210:  In Lab Instructions

Turning on the Computer:

Press the button on the CPU tower.  You shouldn’t have to turn on the monitor.  After computer starts up and asks for password, do not type anything in the password box.  Simply press enter twice..  Computer will resume starting up.

Computer is on:

You will see some icons on the desktop.  You do not insert any DVD for doing the modules in lab (you only insert DVD if you are doing modules at home).

1)      Insert your 3.5” diskette or a USB mass storage and plug in your earphones into the cable next to the computer.

2)      Double click the icon “BEGIN”

3)      Login using your name and the 9 digit login number provided in BOLD from your text – it starts with an 8.  (note:  do not use the number labeled ISBN).  Initialize if this is the first time you are using the diskette.  Always use the same diskette every time you login.  If you choose not to login, you will not be able to take the quiz.

4)      Select the correct lesson. Consult your calendar and text for the correct option.

5)      Note: volume is accessed at bottom menu. Hit the windows key (between ctrl and alt in the bottom row).  Double click the speaker icon at right near the clock, and adjust as necessary. Close the windows and click on your lesson screen to activate that space.

6)      At the end of the lesson, you will take a quiz.  At the end of the quiz, you have two buttons as options.  “Continue” will take you to a new module committing that score to memory, while “Review” will take you back to that same lesson for review and to take the quiz again. Remember, if you choose to retake the quiz that the score from before doesn’t disappear. The score will average the scores together.*

7)      You must upload your score at the front computer in order to submit it.  The first time you attempt to upload, you must first “register” your number at the front computer.  You only “register” once, and then for any quiz you submit, you must subsequently “upload” it.  You will see an “X” next to the quiz name if it has been successfully uploaded.

8)      The upload date of a quiz is the date it is considered submitted.  Quizzes will not be accepted after the late date – no exceptions.  Use the late date as needed, but work to submit quizzes on their due date.

Some helpful hints:

1)      Always keep your login number with you to make logging in easier.

2)      Remember to remove your diskette and earphones when you are done.

3)      Always work at your assigned computer.

4)      *If you wish to completely retake the quiz, then you must quit the module, re-login again, and do the lesson over, then retake the quiz.  This will completely replace your previous score, even if it is worse.  If you don’t do this, your previous scores are factored into your resulting score.

5)      You can pause the lecture at any time by clicking on navigation at the top left of the screen, or by holding Ctrl and pressing w.

6)      You can access each chapter already viewed within a module by clicking chapters at the top left of the screen. If you want to review material without taking the quiz, then do not login. If you accidentally start a module by accident, then click main menu from the navigation window at the top left of the screen. If the screen looks too crowded (usually because you have bounced around in the program), then click erase from the navigation window at the top left of the screen.
