Assignment(s) = 25 points

Attendance = 25 points

Total points = 400

Attendance

Attendance: Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class period throughout the semester. Once the door is closed you will not receive credit for attendance (this means you are late). Lateness will not be tolerated. I will arbitrarily pick 25 days to count as one point that will be added to your cumulative point total. You are expected to attend all scheduled classes and stay until you are excused.

If you miss two consecutive classes, I expect to hear from you via email or phone.

Help

If at any time during the semester help is needed, please contact the instructor.  DO NOT wait until near the end of the semester to ask for help.  It will probably be too late.  Students who may need extra lab time to complete assignments must make arrangements with the instructor.

Course/Classroom Assessment

Participation: Participation in the daily course discussion is highly encouraged. Your involvement in the course discussion will help to solidify concepts, the understanding of the terminology, and provide me with verification that you are prepared for the class lecture.

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course.

Students with Disabilities: Please inform me if you have special needs.

Course Outline: May be revised during the semester as needed.

Quizzes: There are no quizzes

Scantrons: Scantrons can be purchased at the bookstore for all exams. Your professor will not provide scantrons.

Cheating: Integrity of your college experience is critical to your success. Cheating will be handled according to MCC’s policy.

Assignment(s): Turned in and correct assignments will receive points that will be added to your final point total.

Extra credit: Extra credit may be available at my discretion. (See below.)

Student Success Seminars:

These seminars are offered throughout the fall semester to assist students in developing academic skills that will support their success in their classes. Proven techniques are presented about a variety of topics such as time management, test anxiety, and how to listen to a lecture. The underlying theme of the seminars is to learn to “study smarter, not harder.” The seminars are free and are offered midday and in the evening. Contact the Learning Center for more information.

You are able to complete 3 seminars for a total of 15 extra credit points.

Course Outline

Helpful hints:

For important points, the use of 3x5 cards can help. (These cards can be bought in the bookstore.) Put the name of the concept or person on one side of the card and the important characteristics on the other.

To help you study, you are encouraged to form study groups with other students in this class. You can meet with them periodically to compare notes and study for exams. A tutor for this course is available at specified times -- or by appointment -- at the Learning Center (LC) in the Library.
