Course Focus This course will cover the fundamentals of electricity.  Digital Volt/Amp/Ohm Meters are used extensively both on electronic training boards and on the automotive vehicle.  The course also includes coverage of Ohm's Law as it applies to Series, Parallel and Series/Parallel circuits.

Wire and determining the proper size of wire to use when wiring circuits will be covered as well as wire repair procedures.

Upon completion of this course, you should gain an understanding of common automotive electrical circuits and you should achieve "Hands On" experience using the DVOM on examples of interior and exterior lighting circuits.

Auxiliary circuits such as power windows, power door locks and power seats etc. will also be used in this class as well as circuits such as the horn, trailer wiring, power mirrors, fog lights, power antenna service etc.  This is a very "Hands On" orientated class.

Required Texts Automotive Excellence Volume 1 , by Glenco.

The text is available in the bookstore.

Attendance Attendance is very important. The class meets once per week, therefore; each absence is an entire week missed. Exam questions are taken from lecture, text, handouts, and presentations. The student is responsible for any missed lecture notes.

Exams There will be eight exams of equal value (100 points each). They will be two weeks apart. Exams will begin 15 minutes after the start time for the class. It is important that you not be late for the exams, as they are timed. Exams will be returned at the following class meeting.

Exams will primarily consist of multiple choice, true and false, matching, and diagrams.

Cheating on an exam will not be tolerated. The student discovered cheating will receive 0 points and be reported to the appropriate administrator.

Labs Labs will be performed each class period.  All safety precautions will be taken during these labs. Industrial quality safety glasses must be worn anytime you are working in the shop.  Students will not be permitted to participate in the lab without safety glasses.  Safety glasses can be purchased in the book store during normal business hours.

Lab grades will be issued for each lab at the time of its scheduled completion.  Lab grades will be averaged in with your test grades when calculating your final grade.
