| Course Focus |
This course will cover the fundamentals of electronics. Digital Volt/Amp/Ohm
Meters are used extensively on electronic training boards.
Hand Held Scanners are introduced and used to some extent
on the automotive vehicle. The course includes coverage of diagnostics
on various electronicly controlled circuits. Basic electronic components are the main focus of this class. Diodes, Transistors, Capacitors etc. will be discussed in great detail. Upon completion of this course, you should gain an understanding of common automotive electronic components and you should achieve "Hands On" experience using the DVOM on examples of circuits using various types of diodes and transistors. The use of capacitors as filters, storage devices and timers is also covered Auxiliary circuits such as power windows, power door locks and power seats etc. will also be used in this class as the electrical circuits that are controlled by electronics. This is a very "Hands On" orientated class. Expect to be engaged in lab activities every class.

| Required Texts |
Automotive Electronic Fundamentals by Frank Petruzella.
The text is available in the bookstore.
|
| Attendance | Attendance is very important. The class meets once per week, therefore; each absence is an entire week missed. Exam questions are taken from lecture, text, handouts, and presentations. The student is responsible for any missed lecture notes. |
| Exams |
There will be eight exams of equal value (100 points each). They will
be two weeks apart. Exams will begin 15 minutes after the start time
for the class. It is important that you not be late for the exams, as
they are timed. Exams will be returned at the following class meeting.
Exams will primarily consist of multiple choice, true and false, matching, and diagrams. Cheating on an exam will not be tolerated. The student discovered cheating will receive 0 points and be reported to the appropriate administrator.
|
| Labs |
Labs will be performed each class period. All safety precautions
will be taken during these labs. Industrial quality safety glasses must
be worn anytime you are working in the shop. Students will not be permitted
to participate in the lab without safety glasses. Safety glasses
can be purchased in the book store during normal business hours. Lab grades will be issued for each lab at the time of its scheduled completion. Lab grades will be averaged in with your test grades when calculating your final grade.
